Following the Mozart sonata\, she was originally to play Béla Bartók’s 14 Bagatelles\, op. 6\, nos. 2-7 and 10\, and Claude Debussy’s Pour le piano. \n  \nElisabet Brauß was raised in Hannover where she attended the prestigious Hochschule für Musik. Selected as a BBC New Generation Artist 2018-2021 she made her debut at the BBC Proms and performed widely around the country. She has been returning ever since and has become a favourite of the Series. Last year she had to cancel her appearance at the last minute due to illness so we are delighted to be welcoming her back this season. \nElisabeth’s programmes are skilfully put together and she often plays Schumann. Tonight\, her finale is his Carnival-Jape from Vienna. This piece finds Schumann staying alone in Vienna\, where he is trying and failing to interest the Viennese publishers in his music journal. It was a bleak time for him and he was missing his future wife Clara. There are sections of great tenderness and intimacy in the piece\,  but overall it is the exuberant and mischievous Carnival spirit that carries the day. \n  \n  \nWatch Elisabeth Brauß performing Schubert: Impromptu no. 3 in G-flat major
