At the turn of the 20th century, Modernists like Ravel and Debussy were searching for something to take the place of Romanticism. They found it by looking back two hundred years.
French pianist Cédric Tiberghien’s inspired programme examines the connection across centuries, setting Ravel and Debussy alongside two great masters of the French Baroque. To add a surprise 21st century perspective, he slips in ‘Misreading Rameau’ by British composer Julian Anderson, a piece that he premiered in Australia in March 2026.
Cédric is an old friend from SJE Arts, where he performed both as soloist and with his duo-partner, violinist Alina Ibragimova. We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming him to the new Series.
