St Johns International Piano Series is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in our activities. We believe that everyone has the right to enjoy music in a safe and supportive environment.
Scope of the policy
This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, trustees, contractors, performers, and any other individuals working on behalf of or with St John’s International Piano Series.
Definitions and Legal Framework
Child – person under the age of 18.
Vulnerable Adult – a person aged 18 or over who may be in need of care or support due to age, disability, or illness and may be unable to protect themselves from harm or exploitation.
It is based on UK legislation and guidance including:
- The Children Act 1989 and 2004
- The Care Act 2014
- Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018)
- The Charity Commission guidance on safeguarding
The Designated Safeguarding Lead
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for St John’s International Piano Series is Simon Payne. Simon can be contacted by phone 07775 904626 or by email: simon@internationalpianoseries.com
The DSL is responsible for:
- Receiving and responding to safeguarding concerns
- Reporting to relevant authorities
- Keeping records of incidents and concerns
- Ensuring staff and volunteers understand safeguarding responsibilities
Code of Conduct
All individuals representing the organisation must:
- treat everyone with dignity and respect
- avoid being alone with a child or vulnerable adult where possible
- never engage in, or tolerate, any form of abuse or inappropriate behaviour
- report any concerns or disclosures immediately to the DSL
